Widener is an innovative metropolitan university that combines academic quality with career preparation and a commitment to community service. A comprehensive doctorate-granting university, Widener offers liberal arts and sciences and professional programs leading to associates, baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degrees. The university’s campuses in Chester, Exton, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, Delaware, serve some 6,500 students.
Widener partnered with IMS on a design-build solution to enhance the presentation technology and bring collaborative and distance learning capabilities to the 125 student lecture hall. With an aggressive project timeline (completion within a 1 week semester break) and budget, IMS and Widener were successful in completing those initiatives. The challenge of incorporating legacy equipment, new technology, ease of use, and the physical retro-fit of the space was met head on by Widener and IMS’ Account Team; including some final design decisions being made in the final days of the project!
Widener faculty, students, and staff now leverage the technology for dynamic presentations, distance learning, and staff video conferences in a large capacity space. System operation was designed with ease of use in mind. Using a web browser based control page on the annotator screen, non-technical users can “drive” the system by pressing the intuitive icon associated with their specific function needed. The system is also on Widener’s network allowing for immediate/remote desktop assistance from the University’s technical support team.
